THE BUSTLING

WORLD

The Bustling World is an open-world action RPG set in a fictional ancient China, developed by Chengdu-based FireWo Games—originally a two-person husband-and-wife team led by programmer Liu Xujian and his spouse on art, both with CS master's degrees and no prior commercial game experience when they started in August 2019. Published by Lightning Games. The game emphasizes boundless freedom: survive and farm over 60 period plants and 30+ livestock species; craft and build with nearly 2,000 architectural components and ~1,000 hand-painted furniture and artifacts sourced from Song–Tang paintings and texts; work odd jobs or run shops from teahouses to pawnshops; roam the jianghu for martial arts, bounty hunts, ruins, and hidden factions; or rise to power through mercenary armies, city planning, policy cards, diplomacy, and warfare. NPCs and factions run on dynamic AI—residents choose where to live, work, migrate, avenge kin, or flee war; cities evolve independently of a fixed script. Art is fully 3D with stylized hand-painted textures (5,000+ assets completed) and full cloth physics on traditional dress. First revealed December 31, 2023; signed publisher January 2024; FunPlus angel investment February 2024; surpassed 100,000 Steam wishlists within a week of launch and 300,000 by mid-2024, ranking among the top three most-wished Chinese games on Steam; publishing deal with G-bits Lightning Games announced March 19, 2025; second gameplay trailer released late 2024. Tencent's Ruíjiàn Investment took a 12.5% stake in April 2026. Planned premium release on PC (Steam); release date TBA, with development targeted for completion in 2026.
